I went to play some games on my switch, only to realize the left controllers battery has given up. Instead of needing to do this twice I ended up buying two new batteries off amazon and installing one in each controller.

It was a super simple replacement, only requiring a single screwdriver and a small pry tool to wedge up the batteries.
