Exploring VMware vSphere and vCenter

This is a project I will be taking on as a part of the expansion of my duties for my job. It seems like I will be the one to manage vSphere / vCenter and other VM related things.

Frankly, I know nothing right now. I will be spending the weekend working on building VMs and learning about vSphere.

So far I’ve gotten the ‘basic employee setup’ on the machine, and have learned a lot about VMs and how they should be maintained. Next, I’m going to work on creating a distributable image from this that can be used in VM setup situations, like the ones that are used where I work.

Thus far I’ve learned a lot about virtualization, have watched a lot of course videos and have created multiple sets of VMs to experiment with different operating systems and differing setup configurations. Unfortunately I don’t really have the hardware to spin up vCenter and the corresponding ESXi hosts on one machine, so I will have to get creative unless I want to bring multiple 2015 Mac minis home. Im at the max with this setup, which is a single 2 Ghz core and 2Gb of ram each for 3 computers, which is what I’m using for a small scale Active Directory setup, though it’s quite slow.
